WHAT IS YOUR 'DAY JOB'?
GOOP wrote a cool article on me this year and it was the first time I was called a “multi-hyphenate” and I think that’s really my “day job” at this point. I run Diversity and Inclusion for Rumble while also being a boxing trainer there. I’m Director of Community, Diversity and Inclusion for an app called Ateam. I’m a content creator, author of a weekly anti-racism newsletter, co-founder of the anti-racism wellness company ACTIV-ISM, and also an actor most recently on season 3 of Succession!
WHAT DOES A DAY IN YOUR LIFE LOOK LIKE?
Truly every day can be different but the most typical would be an early morning start and then off to teach class. Working from home on my computer in the afternoon editing a YouTube video or writing my newsletter or programming more classes. I try to set strict boundaries to end work by 6:00 and spend time with my fiance Richard and usually do a pretty good job making that happen!
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT TO DATE?
Being a presenter this past summer for the Reebok Human Rights Awards was pretty awesome. I felt like it was a big culmination of a lot of my work, talking about both racial justice and wellness, and it just felt very special and monumentous.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SWEAT?
Boxing always and forever!
WHAT ARE YOUR PREFERRED WORKOUT CLOTHING BRANDS?
As a Reebok Athlete I definitely have to say they’re my fave!
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PRE- AND POST-WORKOUT SNACKS?
I’m primarily plant based so I’m always going for a pea protein smoothie with soy milk, bananas and nut butter pre-workout. I love some Banza pasta with vegan meatless crumbles and a spicy tomato sauce with garlic for a quick dinner. Growing up with Puerto Rican and Dominican parents I also always love some rice and beans!
HOW DO YOU SHOW YOURSELF SELF CARE?
I think the best way to show up for myself is truly just sitting down, letting myself feel the feelings without trying to “stop” or “fix” anything and just existing. Oat milk hot chocolate and a Disney movie also help.
WHAT'S SOMETHING YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO?
My wedding in 2022! Richard is my absolute favorite human and I can’t wait to marry him!
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE OXB PIECE TO SWEAT IN?
Has to be my workout hoops.
WHAT'S ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS (BIG OR SMALL!) YOU'VE LEARNED FROM PLAYING SPORTS, BEING A PART OF A TEAM, OR YOUR OWN PERSONAL FITNESS JOURNEY?
I truly never played sports as a kid so I’ve never actually been on any sort of sports team! But I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned when it comes to creating a community in the fitness and wellness space is that folks are always so willing to mentor and teach and share. For me, I came into boxing super humble and wanting to soak up everything like a sponge and it made it really easy to learn quickly because so many were willing to share.
