BEHIND THE SWEAT | JAYNE MATTINGLY

MEET JAYNE.

When it comes to inspiration, we find it in many places - on a hike in the mountains, through art, at the end of an awesome spin class, and from other badass women - and we think there's no one more inspiring than OXB Ambassador, Jayne Mattingly.

An eating disorder recovery coach, Jayne is the woman behind Recovery, Love and Care, a program that is all about 'self-compassion, self-love and body appreciation through the practice of self-care, and eating disorder awareness'. Jayne is also a disabled person due to a progressive chronic illness, and uses her own firsthand experiences to empower other women to accept their bodies in any form and shape.

We're also celebrating Jayne as she launches The AND Initiative, a charitable fund that advocates for everyone to live their lives beyond labels - and we cannot wait to see the amazing work she'll continue to do.

In support of the AND Initiative, we are supporting and fundraising -- OXB Style. We create a custom, hand-formed, ampersand necklace now live on our website. Available in gold-filled or sterling silver metals. A portion of all sales will go to AND. Grab your & necklace now.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Charleston, SC and from Chicago, IL

WHAT IS YOUR 'DAY JOB'?

I am an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach, trained therapist and I train other professionals to become coaches!

WHAT DOES A DAY IN YOUR LIFE LOOK LIKE?

Wake up around 7 a.m., slow mornings are a must!! Lots of coffee, music and puppy snuggles, and then clients starting around 9 a.m., meetings, trainings, leading group supervision, lunch breaks (of course), and then self-care! Some days are AND. For instance, at times I take my 5 hour IV infusions at home while I see clients and work, and then some days are doctor's appointments and some days are more work heavy.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT TO DATE?

I am so proud of myself for building my business - as it grows I become more excited and passionate. Launching The AND Initiative feels like the most recent win, in that it is charitable and supports everything I stand for.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SWEAT?

Infrared sauna and walking in the pool - really, anything low intensity cause ya girl is quite disabled and can’t do high intensity anymore.

WHAT ARE YOUR PREFERRED WORKOUT CLOTHING BRANDS?

I love Athleta, Girlfriend Collective, and Kitty Gains.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PRE- AND POST-WORKOUT SNACKS?

Whatever sounds good, cause #intuitiveeating

HOW DO YOU SHOW YOURSELF SELF CARE?

Rest, listening to my body and its needs, hydrating, eating, asking for my needs “I need more love, I need more hugs," etc. Luxury wise, I love a good bubble bath and infrared sauna.

WHAT'S SOMETHING YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Changing lives with The AND Initiative! Gifting someone something that helps them live their own AND life.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE OXB PIECE TO SWEAT IN?

The & necklace!!! And the booby necklace, I also love JuJu’s collaboration.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU?

Focusing on training and supporting other coaches and professionals and building awareness for The AND Initiative.

WHAT'S ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS (BIG OR SMALL!) YOU'VE LEARNED FROM PLAYING SPORTS, BEING A PART OF A TEAM, OR YOUR OWN PERSONAL FITNESS JOURNEY?

I was so active before I became disabled and chronically ill, and I was in love with movement and dance. The biggest lesson I learned was that my body is worthy no matter how “able” it is, I can find a healthy way to move that is good for ME! Movement looks different these days, and that is ok. I am worthy, my body is worthy.
